Halo’s dairy career almost ended before it began. As an overzealous new breeder, I bred her too young, and her first kidding required a panicked trip to the vet for an emergency c-section. Halo endured an incision from sternum to teats, in addition to an 8-inch uterine tear, to deliver her of quints. I was warned she would likely not conceive again.
Then she did. I would have terminated the pregnancy to save her, but I was assured there was no reason she shouldn’t deliver safely. Which she did. With quints, again. All by herself. Appraisers agree, she is the finest doe I’ve bred yet, and I never tire of looking at her.
